Short, practical walkthroughs for each of the clinical genetics tools. Every guide follows the same order you would use in a real session, from first symbol to finished export.
Build a pedigree in Fast Family Tree
- Right-click on the canvas to place a proband, or drag a symbol in from the toolbar.
- Right-click an individual and use Add Relative to add parents, siblings, partners or children with the connecting lines drawn for you.
- Double-click a symbol to record clinical data: date of birth (age is calculated for you), age at diagnosis, carrier status, deceased status and notes.
- Assign disorders from the disorder list and choose a fill region (full, left, right or quadrant). The legend is built automatically, and names stay off the canvas.
- Use the special connectors for consanguinity, twins, pregnancies, donors, adoption or assisted reproduction, infertility (double crossbar) and no children (single crossbar).
- Download as PNG, JPG or PDF, print, or save the pedigree as JSON so you can reload it later.
Create a patient explainer in GeneSlide
- Start with a gene, a condition, or enter both manually if the pairing you need is unusual. GeneSlide warns you if the gene and condition do not appear to match.
- Review the sourced summary. Content is drawn from OMIM, GeneReviews, Orphanet and MedlinePlus Genetics, and written at a 6th to 8th grade reading level.
- Add figures from GenomeGallery where a diagram explains inheritance or testing better than text.
- Translate the finished deck into any supported language, with back-translation verification for clinical accuracy.
- Export as PPTX, PDF or plain text, or print the English version, the translated version, or both interleaved.
Look up a term in GeneGloss
- Type any genetics term to get a plain-language definition written for patients and families.
- Choose a target language to see the definition translated, including right-to-left languages.
- Use the verification panel to compare the translation against its back-translation before you use it in clinic.
Find a figure in GenomeGallery
- Search or filter the library by inheritance pattern, chromosomes or testing topic.
- Open an image to read its caption and check that it matches the point you want to make.
- Insert it straight into a GeneSlide deck, or download it for your own materials.
What each tool costs
Drawing and browsing pedigrees is free and unlimited. Downloads, prints, JSON saves and JSON loads draw on your free actions first, then need a Fast Family Tree subscription. GeneSlide deck generation and translation draw on free actions and then on purchased credits. GeneGloss and GenomeGallery are free. See pricing for the current plans.
